JAM

About JAM

JAM (Japan Mosaic) is a statistical visualization service for exploring foreign resident populations in Japan by nationality, prefecture, and municipality.

What you can explore

  • Compare prefectures on the Japan map by changing the nationality and switching between counts and population share.
  • Compare areas in prefecture rankings and continue to a prefecture detail page.
  • Use municipality maps and lists to view foreign resident counts for supported nationalities.
  • Select a municipality to explore its nationality composition.
  • Open an explicit Google Maps link when you want to explore an area further.

Languages

JAM and these public information pages are available in Japanese and English. Names originating in statistical and boundary data are displayed without changing the meaning of the source data.

About the data

JAM processes and visualizes statistics from the Portal Site of Official Statistics of Japan (e-Stat) and boundary data from Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Each dataset has its own reference date and limitations.
